The Promise and Pitfalls of ChatGPT

Thursday, April 13 2023, 11:00 AM EDT, 30 min

Large language models (LLMs) such as Open AI's ChatGPT have opened up exciting new possibilities for AI-assisted products and workflows. They've also reignited debates about the ethical and legal deployment of AI technology. To understand why LLMs are more capable—and controversial—than previous language-generating AI models, it's important to understand how these systems are created. MIT Horizon senior editor Erik Sofge will explain the machine learning training techniques that make LLMs such impressive tools, as well as potential targets for regulations. After the talk, Erik will take questions from the audience.
